GALMA

By Wally

In the case of Galma, the given name of this boat, it is best to let the numbers speak for themselves. Indeed, there are 80 square meters in the cockpit of the new wallywind110, the latest creation of the sailing world’s most innovative brand. It can hoist 1,200 square meters of sail (Code 0 included), which become 1,600 with the gennaker, pushing this 110-foot carbon-fiber yacht designed by Judel/Vrolijk & Co to «maxi» performance: in stiff winds it easily passes 20 knots. It’s an important hull, with a telescopic keel that makes the draft vary from 4.5 to 6.95 meters. Compared to the past, this is a boat with a more welcoming cockpit, with plenty of sofas and areas free from riggings and a bimini that is always operational, an environment that gives guests the pleasure of sailing

without having to endure the discomforts of sailing too steeply.

Exterior and interior design were conceived by the Santa Maria Magnolfi studio. The two designers did not want to compromise between aesthetics and comfort. «With this boat we are one step ahead»,”says Luca Bassani proudly, who with this 110-footer counts on bringing new owners to sailing. Because if the goal of boating is sustainability, nothing is more sustainable than cruising aboard a sailboat. Even when you turn on the auxiliary engines. Yes, because at 10 knots of speed Galma ensures really low consumption:1 liter of fuel per mile. Numbers that do not lie and that have been tested in the 3,600 miles sailed in 6 weeks of initial cruising. It is no coincidence that another wallywind110 is under construction in the new shipyards built in Ravenna by Ferretti Group. Already booked.
